The sense of innate freedom is in us all when we step outside, even if we are still around our homes. We all feel a connection with the living world, outside; a world which continues regardless, whilst we are distracted by screens. Stepping outdoors and taking a moment to notice detail of things is refreshing for us all.

Even from our doorsteps, and “lockdown localities” there is a chance to watch the changes in nature, which are continuing throughout the wild. We see, as we tip over the Spring Equinox, the rapid emergence of bright green leaves and change in birdlife, accompanying the warmer and longer days. Birds such as the distinctive goldfinch are returning, after spending winter in southern Europe; blackthorn buds are bursting out, turning black twiggy bushes green; glowing sunlight is lingering in the skies into the evening, bringing some glorious sunsets, and photo opportunities. This observation of the seasonal changes in nature brings personal connections with the world around us, as something different catches each of us, and it is something we are passionate about at Trex Explore.

We encourage everyone to experience some of those changes in the wild world – spend some definitive time outdoors, and push yourself to explore a little further. Take a walk down a different path, urban or rural, and see what you find. Open doors and windows, and appreciate the fresh air blowing through. Step outside in morning, daytime, dusk and night, and notice how each time has different smells, sounds and feels.

Come and spend a short weekend, overnight or day trip with us, to disconnect from the video calls and reconnect with the life and landscape that persists behind it all!

We are still planning our return to full group outings, watching government and local guidance, but aim to run weekend, one-night trips as soon as possible. Do get in touch with us if you are interested in any particular location, and check our social media streams to find out more.

We leave you with a core sentiment we share with the BMC – as we begin treading across hills, mountains, forests, riversides and grasslands again: respect the wild.
